Tourism Electronic Card Transactions

MBIE will resume publication of Tourism Electronic Card Transactions (TECTs) in early 2027.
The TECTs will provide MBIE’s measure of regional tourism spending activity while the Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates (MRTEs) are paused.
TECTs measure electronic card spending by domestic and international visitors. They do not estimate total tourism expenditure.
Further updates will be available here on the Tourism Evidence and Insights Centre when the TECTs are published.
The Tourism electronic card transactions (TECTs), were an interim replacement for the Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates (MRTEs, 2016 to 2020 series) to understand tourism spend activity in New Zealand.
