New Zealand's Greenhouse Gas Inventory
15 April 2025
Ministry for the Environment
Greenhouse Gas Inventory, produced by the Ministry for the Environment, is the official annual estimate of all human‑generated greenhouse gas emissions and removals in New Zealand since 1990. The Inventory supports New Zealand’s international climate reporting and is used by Stats NZ to publish greenhouse gas emissions statistics.
A full description of the latest findings can be found on Ministry for the Environment’s website.
You can also explore the data using the Interactive Greenhouse Gas Emissions Tracker.
Why does the latest data end in 2023?
Greenhouse gas emissions statistics are published by Stats NZ using New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory, which follows internationally agreed reporting and review timelines. This means the latest year of data is released with a time lag to allow for verification and independent international review.
See New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory for more information.
